Harshil - Hidden treasure in Uttarakhand
The beauty of Harshil Valley can not be expressed in words, but after reading this blog you can not stop yourself from visiting Harshil. Now I will try to give words to my feelings for Harshil.
In Uttarakhand Harshil is a real hidden treasure of nature in the lap of Himalaya. It is a small helmet village located 2,745 meters from sea level in a beautiful Harshil valley before 28 km of Gangotri on the bank of Bhagirathi River. According to the local people, there is a story behind the name of Harshil – Once two rivers Bhagirathi and Jalandhari had an argument and all the Sura’S (divine personalities) get in trouble then they request lord Vishnu (is also known as Hari ) to solve that argument then lord Hari changes himself into a Shila (big rock) and he manages the situation. Even now after Hari Shila (Harshil) the water of both the rivers is less troublent.
Harshil is such a beautiful place covered with dense forest and snow-capped mountain round the year, there are seven water streams. There is a beautiful migrated Tibetan village which is fully built by wood, in traditional style. One can see complete Tibetan culture over there. The people of the Garhwal region are very innocent, kind, and warm. It is one of the best places to witness a typical Garhwali culture and traditional food.
If you want to visit Chardham in winter then it is the best destination-Three km away from Harshil there is a Mukhba winter sheet of Gangotri as everybody knows that there are winter sheets and the main sheets of Badrinath, Kedarnath, Gangotri and Yamunotri. So for six months, Gangotri Doli remains in Mukhba where people worship of goddess Gangotri. From here you can enjoy several beautiful trees that are an amazing experience for travelers.
Harshil is a rich destination in flora and fauna. Here are beautiful trees of deodars and orchards of apples. According to history, a man from out of India came Harshil and fell in love with the village after that he married a Pahadi girl and became a resident of Harshil then he taught apple cultivation to local people. The Harshil apple is famous all over India because the apples are rich in sweet juice and color. The Churchill house is significant to this story and it is a tourist attraction. The main pulse from the Harshil valley is black bean ( Rajma) which is very famous all over India, It is also known as malai Rajma as it is the good quality of Rajma which is very buttery in eating.
Harshil came to know in the notice in 1985 when a famous movie was released by Raj Kapoor Sahab named – “Ram Teri Ganga Maili”. This movie gave an identity to Harshil all over the world. The post office of the movie was built with wood and local material; even today it is as it is in the movie and became the center of attraction for the tourists for over three decades. The weather of Harshil is very pleasant in summer and winter. Also in summer, you can see the green valleys and in winters you can see snow-covered mountains.
